For the Christmas illuminations, Chronix has created an immersive light installation, in partnership with Europe Évènement, marking the entrance to the night-time visit of the Abbaye de l’Épau. Conceived as a true threshold between day and night, this tunnel of light invites visitors to step into the poetic, contemporary world of the trail.
The installation takes the form of a tunnel of 15 triangular luminous arches, built entirely from LED tubes and totalling nearly 8,000 LEDs. Through its graphic geometry and rhythmic repetition, the piece converses with the abbey’s Cistercian architecture while bringing a resolutely contemporary signature.
The lighting scenography is built on an animation synchronised to the soundtrack supplied for the event. The light evolves in time with the music, creating an immersive sensory experience from the visitor’s very first steps. Shifts in intensity, colour and sequence heighten the sense of movement and of passing through.
Designed as an evolving installation, this creation can also incorporate interactive devices where a project calls for them. The light tunnel is then able to react in real time to people walking through it, turning every crossing into a unique, personalised experience.
